Houlton Community

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Houlton and Presque Isle area, twin gateways to Maine’s northern wilderness known for their agricultural heritage and Wabanaki culture. Students on this trip will engage with local organizations such as Mi’kmaq Farms to learn about food systems, community development in rural Maine, and Indigenous stewardship. Accommodations will include access to kitchen and shower facilities.

Sample Itinerary

Wednesday, August 26: Depart Bowdoin, drive up to Presque Isle, and get settled at your housing! Help a local partner with a farming project.

Thursday, August 27: Learn about the local culture, and then visit a museum to help upkeep their collections!

Friday, August 28: Visit Mi’kmaq Farms to tour and help them with their harvest—then explore the area!

Saturday, August 29: Move out of your housing and return to Bowdoin!
