Spend your Orientation Trip exploring Grafton Notch, one of Maine’s most rugged and beautiful mountain corridors. This trip combines river adventure and alpine views with a bit of everything: whitewater duckying, stand-up paddleboarding, waterfall stops, and challenging hikes. This trip offers a chance to explore the outdoors from a few different avenues.
Sample Itinerary
Wednesday
- Depart Bowdoin for Grafton Notch and set up camp upon arrival.
- Hit the river in duckies (inflatable kayaks) for an exciting afternoon paddle.
Thursday
- SUP down the Magalloway River (~5 miles).
- Hike the Table Rock loop (~2 miles) for a quick and rewarding overlook of the notch.
Friday
- Full-day hike up Old Speck Mountain (~7 miles out-and-back), one of Maine’s tallest peaks. Groups may select to hike another local peak - there are so many options! - and should expect a full day adventure!
Saturday
- Pack up and return to Bowdoin. On the way back, stop to explore some of the cool geologic features in the state park. Return to campus and clean all camping gear and return borrowed equipment before returning to dorms.
