Frequently Asked Questions
We do our best to assign you to one of your top choices however we can not make any promises as some trips fill up faster than others. To those who may not get their top Orientation trip choice, please remember that regardless of where you are and what you are doing, the ultimate goal of your Orientation trip is meet a small group of your peers, share a common experience outside of the classroom, and build new friendships among your group.
NO! We have a broad range of trips, that range from whitewater kayaking to volunteering with under-served populations to hiking to yoga. There is a trip for everybody! All we ask is that you’re willing to bring a positive attitude your trip. If you are worried about the details of a certain trip, please contact Tor Parker '21 for BOC trips and Praise Hall ’20 for McKeen Center trips.
It depends on what you need and how much of it we have! We have a limited amount of sleeping bags, sleeping pads & backpacking backpacks that we lend out for some of the trips. If you can borrow any of these items from family or friends it will help us make sure we have enough for those students who are unable to borrow these items. If it turns out that you need to borrow a backpack, sleeping bag or pad please contact the Outing Club Trip Coordinator, Tor Parker at bocOtrips@bowdoin.edu or (207) 798-4268. You will need to provide your own personal clothing items, toiletries and accessories. We will have limited amounts of long underwear tops, bottoms and socks for sale at the Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center the day you arrive to campus if you need to purchase any last minute layers for your trip (financial aid is available for those who qualify). Group equipment such as PFDs, helmets, paddles, wetsuits, waterproof bags for canoeing, etc. will be provided for your individual trips. If you have further questions please contact Tor.
