ArtVan is a mobile art therapy nonprofit organization serving under-resourced youth in the communities where they live. At no cost to their seven under-resourced neighborhoods, they provide year-long safe, creative, feedback-oriented environment for youth and families, directly where they live. Their direct service includes; two trained art therapists, all art materials, snacks, van fuel for transporting staff and supplies from ArtVan’s studio to each neighborhood, and minimal operational costs (10%) to solely support this direct programming. Their Director of Development and Communications actively provides the operational workings for the organization.
Fellows projects may include:
- The intern will provide direct program support and work with the art therapists to design, implement, research and prepare art projects for each neighborhood.
- The intern will also have experience working to develop content for promotional materials including electronic newsletters, web site, social media and blog. Depending on interns interest and skills she/he will increase their experiences in each of these areas of ArtVan's work.
Skills Needed: The intern's should be open-minded, patient, show good boundaries, a team player, ability to be flexible and work both didactically and comfortable joining in on creative processing with Youth of all ages. They do not need to be an "artist" but willing to take risks. Comfortable sharing ideas, synthesize information, resourceful, multi-task, and willing to learn and grow both academically and personally.
ArtVan plans for this internship to be in-person, but that could change based on Maine's status in Summer 2021.
