Departmental Fellowships are usually open to students from a particular discipline and the funding decisions are made at the departmental faculty level.
The submission deadlines, notification dates, and award packages vary by department and fellowship. Students should direct their questions about Departmental Fellowships to their faculty mentors in the relevant department who can provide information about the various opportunities and the application procedures.
Qualified students who have demonstrated the appropriate intellectual drive for higher education are provided access to a supportive academic environment, faculty mentoring, rigorous structured programming, and research opportunities. Active participation in two summer research training programs, GRE workshops, and guidance with the graduate application process in a Mellon designated field. MMUF offers academic year and summer stipends with the expectation that beneficiaries will work toward acquiring terminal or doctoral degrees in a Mellon designated field.
Provides up to $500 to assist with cost of conducting research during the academic year (including winter and spring breaks). Grants can be awarded to any student enrolled in departmental courses, but preference will be given to declared majors and minors.
$480/week for 8, 9 or 10 weeks of full time research in the life sciences; subsidized college housing; funding to cover research supplies. Students working on biological problems in the physical sciences and mathematics are also eligible. Students apply through the Student Fellowships and Research application process.
Maximum award of $1000 in support of student participation in archaeological excavations that investigate ancient Greek, ancient Roman or ancient Mediterranean cultures, or for summer language study in Greek or Latin.

Provides financial assistance for summer student projects within the Visual Arts Department at Bowdoin College. The grant consists of a maximum of $1,000 to allay expenses, such as supplies and travel, associated with the project. The funds will not be used to provide a stipend.
