Student Application

Denning applications are open to sophomore and junior students (with a preference for juniors) and applications for work anywhere in the United States will be reviewed, but there is a preference for work in Maine.

Denning Application

Final fellowship awards will be contingent on students finalizing placements and projects by April 30, 2020.

March 3, 2021

(noon)

All accepted Denning fellows must then finalize an organization placement by April 30.

Denning Application Materials

  • Two Bowdoin references (one must be a faculty member who can speak to your research abilities and skills). Note – we only need their contact information. They do not need to provide a recommendation letter.
  • A 1-2 page single-spaced Fellowship Proposal that includes clear ideas for a candidate's summer project including area of interest, possible community organizations, likely location, type of project, target population, and how the work will intersect with academic pursuits. Applications will be considered if a candidate has an internship offer already or if a candidate has solid ideas for their summer project. Proposals should include clear ideas for their summer projects (including possible community organizations, area of interest, type of project, target population), but do not need to have all details worked out at the time of submission.
  • An up-to-date resume

Please note that the McKeen Center will consult with the Dean of Students office to ensure that all candidates are in good standing.
