Artist Gerald Clarke on his Spring Residency at Bowdoin
Artist Gerald Clarke joined the Bowdoin community this past Spring as the most recent halley k harrisburg ’90 and Michael Rosenfeld Artist-in-Residence. Claire Stone ’28, communications intern at the BCMA, recently chatted with Clarke to learn more about his experience.
The Walker Art Building as Seen through the Photography of Leon B. Strout
Bowdoin College Library’s Deptartment of Special Collections & Archives recently completed the digitization and online publication of photographer Leon B. Strout’s (1869-1937) entire surviving photographic archives. Of the nearly 6,000 images that make up the Leon B. Strout Collection, nearly 400 document Bowdoin’s campus, including many of and from the Walker Art Building.
Object of the Month: Quillwork Basket by Maime Trudeau Migwans
A recently acquired quillwork basket by Maime Trudeau Migwans expands the BCMA's growing collection of Indigenous art. Made using centuries-old Anishinaabe and Odawa basketmaking traditions, the work features designs developed with Migwans's nephew, celebrated artist Carl Beam, derived from ancient Lake Superior pictographs.
