Housing Stabilization Fellowship

This summer, approximately 60 families of asylum-seekers will move to Brunswick. Family Promise, Greater Portland will be working with local government and partner organizations to provide housing orientation and stabilization services to welcome families moving to Brunswick Landing.

Family Promise provides housing navigation, housing mentorship, and case management services assisting families in securing and maintaining their housing.

The Fellow will assist Family Promise to welcome and onboard families moving to Brunswick Landing.

Responsibilities

With Family Promise staff and partners, the Fellow will:

  1. Develop and maintain relationships with community providers
  2. Provide referrals to community resources
  3. Coordinate on site educational and recreational programming 
  4. Help residents maintain the obligation of tenancy; advocate for tenants so that their voices are heard 
  5. Ensure that families have access to:
    • Orientation regarding setting up utilities, change of address, obtaining a photo ID, etc. 
    • Community resources around food, clothing, and transportation 
    • Health care, education, and workforce development
  6. Provide direct and immediate assistance with:
    • Tenant education around heat, plumbing, food storage, pest management, trash and recycling
    • Ongoing advocacy between property management and the tenants 
    • Troubleshooting any lease violations or any other issues that arise during tenancy 

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Experience working with people from different countries
  • Respect for all cultures
  • Friendly, professional, positive communication style
  • Portuguese, French, or Lingala language skills are a plus

Please note that this position will be a mix of virtual and in-person in Portland and Brunswick; to that end, having access to a car is a plus, but not required.

The Fellow will be provided a $6,000 stipend (with an additional $1,000 for students on aid) for ten weeks of full-time work.
