Tips for Meeting with Your Liberal Arts Advisor and Professors

Before you can register for spring classes you will meet with your Liberal Arts advisor. This is a great way to get guidance, ask questions, and plan your next steps. A little preparation can help you make the most of your time and feel confident walking into these conversations.

What to Talk About with Your Advisor

💡 Before your meeting, think about:

  • What you’re enjoying at Bowdoin
  • How you’re managing your time
  • Courses you’re considering for next semester
  • Concerns or challenges you’re facing

📚 Explore broadly:

  • Browse course descriptions in Workday; explore courses you're interested in and those new to you.
  • Review Bowdoin’s Distribution & Division requirements.
  • Bring your questions to your Liberal Arts advisor.

Scheduling and Registration

📅 Advising Meetings:

  • Advisors may email you to set up a time, or you can reach out to them, typically a week or so before registration.

✅ Before You Register for Spring Classes:

  • You can create saved schedules in Workday, but you cannot register until you meet with your advisor
  • After your meeting, your advisor releases your Advising Hold that then allows you to register.

⏰ Deadlines to Track:

  • Check the Registrar’s Calendar for add/drop dates, extended withdrawal, and Elective Credit/D/Fail grading deadlines each term.
  • Use your Academic Year Planner to stay on top of key dates!

Bowdoin's Support System
