Bicycle Storage

Leaving your bike out in the elements over extended periods of time can lead to costly repairs and even a snowed-in bike. Here is a comprehensive list of sheltered, protected, and indoor bike storage options on campus.

FAQs

What if my res hall doesn't have a bike storage room?

You may be able to store your bike in a nearby res hall or brick: Coleman residents can store bikes in Hyde, Winthrop can store in Maine, Howard can store in Stowe.

Otherwise, bikes can be stored in apartments, but hallways and entrances/exits must be kept clear. You may also contact Res Life with residence-specific bike storage questions.

What should I do with my bike over the winter?

Bring it inside! Bringing your bike in for the winter can save you money in maintenance and parts, and keep your bike running for longer. You can bring your bike inside to a bike room if possible or inside your apartment/residence (following fire safety rules). You can also ask Residential Life about access to a bike room near your residence.

Where can I put my bike over the summer?

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to leave your bikes in storage rooms over the summer. Currently, you can leave your bike with a trusted friend (free) or contact Gorham Bike and Ski to potentially store your bicycle with them (pay).

Sustainability is considering developing a forum to connect students that need bicycles over the summer with students who need a place to put their bicycles over the summer.

What if I have a bike that I don't want to/can't use anymore?

Consider donating the bicycle to the Yellow Bike Club on campus or posting on the Student Digest to donate or sell your bicycle. Please don't abandon your bike; abandoned bikes make more work for Security and they deteriorate when left in the elements, often rendering them unusable. There are always people on campus who need bikes!
