The Fulbright Program

The Fulbright program is one that seeks to serve as a cultural exchange program between the United States and other countries. Many students who have focused on Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies have been awarded fellowships to the prestigious program, enabling them to conduct research, teach and study throughout Latin America.

Recent Recipients

Biology major and Hispanic Studies minor, Genevieve de Kervor ’18, was awarded a Latin American Studies Research Award in 2017to investigate the role of Chilean opposition in the country's transition to democracy. Genevieve was recently awarded a Fulbright study/research grant, and will be returning to Chile to study zebra fish olfactory development with Dr. Kathleen Whitlock at the University of Valparaíso. In her time away from the lab, she looks forward to leading science workshops in public schools with the outreach program called "Ciencia al Tiro" (Science Immediately).

In 2017, four students were awarded teaching Fulbright Fellowships and went their way to the region: Juliet Eyraud ’16, an Education and Computer Science double major, will teach in Peru; Ana García-Moreno ’17 (Biology and Romance Languages and Literatures) and Amanda Spiller ’17 (Sociology) will both be in Mexico; and Roger Tejada ’14 (Government and Legal Studies) in Brazil.
