Policy Considerations for J-1 Visa Holders

United States immigration law places the responsibility upon the individual student or visiting scholar to know and follow all relevant immigration regulations.
Failure to comply with these regulations may have a severe impact on your ability to study, make any changes to your immigration status, seek employment or even remain in the United States.
The J-1 Visa was established and is administered through the United States Department of State. It is for persons coming to the United States for a short-term program in a variety of areas such as study, long-term research, short-term research, teaching and training. The SEVIS DS-2019 is the document issued by Bowdoin College to any person approved for a J-1 program.
