Sustainability

The Mail Center is committed to sustainability—here is how:

Reuse Shipping and Packing Materials

  • The Mail Center reuses materials whenever possible. Re-used boxes, bubble mailers, and packing material are available for FREE to the Bowdoin community. If you'd like to donate materials, see the FAQ below for details on what we can accept.
  • Did you know? The Bowdoin Store uses almost entirely re-used packing materials for their outgoing shipments!

Reduce Junk Mail

  • Unwanted marketing and junk mail makes up a significant portion of the mail that comes to Bowdoin staff and students. The Mail Center is working with Waste-Free Mail (WFM) to reduce these unwanted items. You can help by unsubscribing from unwanted items. See the FAQ below for details.

Recycle Appropriately

  • Hundreds of boxes and packages arrive every day for Bowdoin staff and students. Unfortunately, not all of these items can be re-used and must be disposed of appropriately. The FAQ below contains details on how to properly dispose of various types of shipping materials.
