“As a freshman at Bowdoin, I began my studies in Latin and Greek. Barbara Weiden Boyd was my adviser, and she captured my imagination.  She was scholarly, funny and encouraging.  She was the kind of teacher I wanted to be, and she pushed me to achieve excellence. Bowdoin’s faculty members are treasures, and I want this endowment to encourage students to thrive in scholarship and to establish rich relationships with faculty.”   —Mary Jo Gorman Keaney ‘86

To mark 50 years of women at Bowdoin, Mary Jo Gorman Keaney ’86, a lifelong educator, established the Barbara Weiden Boyd Endowment Fund in honor of her classics professor. Professor Boyd’s mentorship resulted in Mary Jo mastering both Greek and Latin and being awarded The Nathan Goold Classics Prize. Mary Jo arranged a charitable remainder unitrust (CRUT) which will provide her with income for life and ultimately provide enrichment funding for students in the classics.
