Pull up a seat and join us for Explore Bowdoin this fall where you'll get a head start on the college application process.
Explore Bowdoin is a virtual* college visit program for high-achieving low-income and/or first-generation high school seniors who come from diverse backgrounds or rural areas.
*We’re prepared to assist students who might have trouble accessing video-conferencing technology.
Staying home? We'll meet you there!
In light of COVID-19, your safety and that of our college community is our highest priority, so we have moved Explore Bowdoin to online platforms this fall. Because we're unable to fly students to campus, we've developed a new program to introduce you to Bowdoin and help guide you through the application process.
To accommodate students across the country, we are offering programs with different evening session times. You should plan on being available for two hours every evening throughout the duration of the program.
Explore 1: September 13-19, 2020
Starting at 7 pm Eastern Time
Deadline to apply: August 14
Explore 2: October 18-24, 2020
Starting at 9 pm Eastern Time
Deadline to apply: September 18

Choose your adventure.
Since we can't bring you to Bowdoin, we're bringing Bowdoin to you. (Did we mention college swag?) Along with the new swag, you'll choose your own path through a week of evening events where you'll meet potential future classmates, learn about the college admissions process, and receive mentoring from a college admissions officer.
Our online conversations and activities are designed to be fun and informative so you have the tools and confidence to tackle your college application. We're also excited to introduce you to all that Bowdoin has to offer—our great students, faculty, and location in Maine. Each day will be different; here is some of what you can expect:
- Meetings with an admission office mentor.
- Small group time and conversations with current Bowdoin students.
- Time to meet and have discussions with faculty.
- Form new friendships and meet potential future classmates.
- Meet with alumni.
Parents and families can join, too!
- Learn what it's like to live in Maine. Take a tour of downtown Brunswick.
- Q&A with Bowdoin's president and the dean of admissions.
- One-on-one appointments with financial aid counselors.
Who can apply?
Interested high school seniors (US citizens, permanent residents, and undocumented/DACA students living in the US) are welcome to apply. Please note that preference is given to applicants from lower income backgrounds, students who will be the first in their families to attend college, and/or who come from diverse backgrounds or rural areas.
In addition to completing the online application, which includes a 200-word short answer response, the following materials are required. (Please note: Explore Bowdoin 2020 is test-optional.)
- Graded paper from junior year
- Resume and/or activity list
- Transcript with grades through the end of junior year
