Howard Hall 

Howard Hall is a four-story, brick residence that houses approximately 60 students in quad and quint suites.  Each suite is comprised of two bedrooms, a common room and bathroom.  There is one common room and a kitchen (without a stove) on the first floor.  There is a full-sized elevator in the building.

Furnishings

The College supplies the following items for each student:

  • twin bed, extra long (36" x 80")

  • closet/wardrobe
  • bookshelf 

Telephone and Voicemail

Each student is assigned a telephone number for their entire time at Bowdoin.  One phone per room is supplied and each student has an individual voicemail box.

Television and Cable

All rooms are cable ready.  Howard Hall is equipped with a television in the first floor common room.

Computer Connections

High-speed internet ports are located in every student room.  Additionally, all buildings on campus are wireless. 

Parking

Howard does not have its own parking lot.  Decals are issued to designated parking lots based on seniority and housing assignments on a first come, first served, space available basis.  You can learn more about student parking at Bowdoin on the Security parking website. 

Laundry

There are laundry rooms located on the second, third and fourth floors.   The charge for washers and dryers is $1.70 per cycle.  The washing machines and dryers in all residence halls are equipped with card readers; laundry machines do not accept cash. You may add money to your Bowdoin ID card for this purpose at several machines on campus.  You can see what machines are open, get alerts sent to you when your laundry is finished, and report a problem with a machine at any time by visiting LaundryView.

Safety

All college-owned student residences are equipped with sprinklers and alarmed for fire safety. 

Howard Hall has a card access system.  Residents of this residence hall have 24/7 access.  All other students have access from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. 

Bicycle Storage

There is no bicycle storage room at this location.  Students often use the Stowe Hall bicycle storage located next door.

Staff

The Residential Life student staff comprises seventy upperclass students.  There is one Resident Assistant in Howard.  Find out who the RA is in your building. 

History

Dedicated on October 19, 1996, Howard Hall is named in honor of Oliver Otis Howard (1830-1909), Bowdoin Class of 1850, Civil War general, Commissioner of the Freedmen's Bureau, Founder, President and Trustee of Howard University.
