Helmreich House is one of eight College Houses. It is a three-story, wooden residence that houses approximately 23 students in single and double rooms. There are bathrooms on the basement, 1st and 2nd floor hallways that, depending on the gender of the floor from year-to-year, may be single sex or co-ed. The first floor includes a living room, two studies and full kitchen. There is no elevator in the building.
Helmreich House is 923 feet from the Polar Bear Statue located in Hyde Plaza.

Each student is assigned a telephone number for their entire time at Bowdoin. One phone per room is supplied and each student has an individual voicemail box.
All rooms are cable ready. Helmreich House is equipped with a wide-screen television in the first floor living room.
High-speed internet ports are located in every student room. Additionally, all buildings on campus are wireless.
Beginning the 2014-15 academic year, Helmreich residents will be assigned a parking decal to a designated parking lots based on seniority and housing assignments on a first come, first served, space available basis. The laundry room is located in the basement. The charge for washers and dryers is $1.70 per cycle. The washing machines and dryers in all residence halls are equipped with card readers; laundry machines do not accept cash. You may add money to your Bowdoin ID card for this purpose at several machines on campus. You can see what machines are open, get alerts sent to you when your laundry is finished, and report a problem with a machine at any time by visiting LaundryView.
There is a vending machine on the first floor.
All college-owned student residences are equipped with sprinklers and alarmed for fire safety.
Helmreich House has a card access system. Residents of this residence hall have 24/7 access. All other students have access from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
There is no bicycle storage room at this location.
The Residential Life student staff comprises seventy upperclass students. There is one House Proctor in Helmreich. Find out who the House Proctor is in your building.
Helmreich House formerly Alpha Rho Upsilon was dedicated on October 30, 1999 in honor of Ernst Christian Helmreich. Distinguished member of the Bowdoin faculty 1931-1972, Thomas Brackett Reed Professor of History and Political Science, Advisor to the Thorndike Club 1937-1946, Recipient of the 1974 Alumni Award for Faculty and Staff and the 1991 Gordon S. Hargraves '19 Preservation of Freedom Fund Prize.
