Affiliated Student Organizations
Student organizations are spaces where students from different faith, spiritual, or secular backgrounds can be together in a shared community. These groups are actively involved in the life and community at Bowdoin.
The Catholic Student Union (CSU) provides a community of faith and fellowship for Catholic students. CSU seeks to provide a welcoming community for members of the Bowdoin community practicing the Catholic faith. The goals of the organization include: convening weekly for fellowship meetings, organizing carpools to local churches for weekend masses, planning on-campus masses throughout the year (during Advent and Lent), as well as participating in events of faith and fellowship with Catholic student groups from other colleges/universities in the Southern Maine area. The Christian Student Association (CSA) is a student-run club that seeks to bring together Bowdoin Christian students from all denominations and backgrounds. We strive to do this through different events and initiatives including, Bible study, worship nights, meditation and prayer, lectures, social justice advocacy, arranging transportation to churches, etc. The CSA is a space to foster community on campus, celebrate Christian holidays, plan educational events, ask difficult questions, have meals together, and help students continue to engage their faith while they’re at Bowdoin. We are a welcoming space for all students in our community, regardless of faith affiliation, or Christian background. Our hope is to connect Christian students with other students at Bowdoin, to learn from one another, encourage each other, and strive to continue to grow in our faith journeys. Hillel aims to provide students with a Jewish home on campus by celebrating Jewish holidays, planning Jewish educational events, and being a social hub on campus. Hillel strives to be not only a place where Jews can be with other Jews, but also an open environment where all Bowdoin students are welcome to participate and learn. [Check out Hillel on Instagram.]
Bowdoin’s Muslim Student Alliance (MSA) strives to promote knowledge, awareness, and understanding of Islam and its followers in order to develop a community of tolerance and appreciation for diversity. Our mission is based on the conviction that we’re all brothers and sisters in humanity. We hope to bring together people with different levels of Islamic faith, and of different faiths by promoting a non-judgmental and welcoming atmosphere. We aspire to build and strengthen the Muslim community on campus by establishing events, activities, and reforms that will appeal to future applicants. Our mission is to not only provide the foundation with which future members can build upon, but to make Bowdoin a “home away from home” for them as well. We endeavor to accomplish the things that we do not for our own sake, but for the benefit of all the students that will come after us. [Check out MSA on Instagram.]
