COVID-19 FAQ

Does Bowdoin require students, faculty, and staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19?
Bowdoin strongly encourages all students, faculty, and staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19 but as of May 12, 2023, does not require it.

Where can I obtain Covid tests?
Beginning on Monday, October 2, students may obtain up to three COVID-19 antigen test kits (six tests in all) free of charge through the vending machine on the lower level of Smith Union. Students can obtain these test kits one at a time or all three at once using their OneCard (swipe the card once for one test kit, twice for two, or three times for three kits). Tests are also available at local pharmacies.

Health Services does not distribute take-home tests.

What should I do if I test positive for COVID-19?
Students are expected to isolate and recover in their residence. Please refer to the CDC for guidance on isolation and recovery.

If your symptoms become worrisome, contact Health Services at healthservices@bowdoin.edu or call 207-725-3770.

What should I do if my roommate tests positive?
Roommates of students with Covid should refer to CDC guidance.

What should I do about meals if I have COVID or another illness that requires isolation?
Students have several options for take-out meals for any illness-related reason:

  • Moulton Union Express is open 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Fast Track is open Monday through Friday from 11:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A “sick meal” protocol for students is also in place in both the Thorne and Moulton Union dining halls. Students can simply request a “sick meal” at the checker station when they arrive. The checker will give them a red voucher that is handed to the dining service team on the serving line, who will then provide the student with a box for their take-out meal. If a student is too ill to make it to the dining hall, they may give their ID to a friend for meal pick-up.

What is the guidance for faculty and staff who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19?
Faculty and staff who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 may continue to work on campus as usual.

Are masks required on campus?
Bowdoin is a mask-friendly campus, and we encourage anyone who desires to wear a mask to do so with our full support.
