Certified Driver Process

Want to become a certified driver? This page describes the requirements.

ALL students (regardless of vehicle type) and faculty/staff who drive a 12 passenger van must:

  • Complete the driver application to initiate the motor vehicle record (MVR) review process. You will receive an email from Sterling Solutions after completion. Please make sure to check all email folders, including the spam folder, for this email.

  • Log in to Canvas, click on Bowdoin College Compliance Training (on your Canvas Dashboard or under Courses ), complete the Driver Safety training module and print the certificate of completion.

  • Complete Traveler’s® large passenger van training on-line and print the certificate of completion.

  • Watch Bowdoin’s "Requesting and Using a Bowdoin Vehicle" video.

  • Sign up for a 20 minute commentary drive and bring proof of completion of the on-line training to the commentary drive.

For faculty and staff to become certified drivers who will only drive sedans and minivans:

  • Individuals must be 25 years or older and only drive a College owned or rented 7 passenger mini-van or a sedan.

  • Complete the driver application to initiate the motor vehicle record (MVR) review process.

  • Complete the Driver Safety Fundamentals training in the Bowdoin College HR Compliance Training course in Canvas (canvas.bowdoin.edu).
