Accommodations

Campus Housing

On-campus accommodations will be made available to participants. All rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair, a wardrobe closet, and a dresser for each participant. Depending on housing arrangements, individuals may be assigned to units with other program participants, however all bedroom spaces are single-occupancy. Each residential participant will arrive to find their bed made up with two sheets, one blanket, one pillow, and a pillowcase, as well as two towels and one washcloth. 

Bowdoin's residential spaces are not air-conditioned, however, a limited number of small fans are available for rent with a small deposit fee at the Summer Programs Information Desk (Events Office, Coles Tower). Guests may bring their own fans, if desired. 

 

Additional Lodging 

If you choose to commute for this meeting, we strongly recommend making arrangements for overnight accommodations as early as possible; rooms and rentals book quickly. Dining Service Menu

Meals are prepared by Bowdoin College's award-winning Dining Service, which has received consistent recognition as one of the top food service programs across colleges and universities in the country. Our dining staff takes great care to provide a healthy, sustainable menu during the summer months, as well as during the academic year. Participants in SGTF have the benefit of enjoying the harvest of Bowdoin's organic gardens, which provide a considerable amount of fresh vegetables offered as part of the daily menu. All meals feature vegetarian (V), vegan (VE), dairy free (DF), and gluten free (GF) menu options.

Check In Location:

The check-in site at Bowdoin College will be located at Coles Tower (#69 on the campus map). Directional signage will be available. 

 

By Car:

Parking will be first-come, first-served in the Coffin Street Lot with overflow parking available in the Watson Arena/Farley Field House Parking Lot. These parking sites are outlined on the campus map. 

• To reach Brunswick from the south:
  Take the Maine Turnpike to Exit 52 (formerly Exit 9; 295 to Coastal Route 1). Continue on 295 to Exit 28 Route 1 North: Coastal Route, Brunswick/Bath).
• From the north via the Maine Turnpike:
  Take Exit 14, then I-295 to Exit 28 Route 1 North.
• To reach the main campus:
  From I-295, take Route 1 North/Pleasant Street. Proceed to the third traffic light. Go straight ("To 201/123/24/Maine Street"). Continue straight for approximately 1/2 mile to the second traffic light. Turn right on Maine Street. Continue on Maine Street for approximately 1/2 mile. The Bowdoin campus begins at the intersection of Maine Street and Bath Road, near a large UCC Church.

By Plane:

The closest commercial airport to Bowdoin College is the Portland International Jetport, located in Portland, Maine. It is approximately a 40-minute drive from Bowdoin College. Taxis and rental cars are available at the airport. Taxi fees to Brunswick generally run $40-60. Logan International Airport in Boston is the second closest airport. Concord Coach buses are available from Logan International Airport to Portland, Maine, and from Portland to Brunswick.

By Train:
Rail service to Brunswick, Maine, is provided by the Downeaster Amtrak Train. Three round-trips are available daily between Brunswick and Boston. Once arriving at the train station in Brunswick, the Bowdoin College campus is a short five-minute walk.

While childcare is not offered on campus, below are some resources for area day and overnight options for children during the conference week.

August weather in Maine can vary greatly--from warm summer days to cool, damp nights. Average temperatures are a high of 78º F (25º C) and a low of 58º F (14º C).
