Cooperating Teachers

Cooperating teachers serve as a guide and resource for Bowdoin Teacher Scholars.

Overview

Cooperating teachers maintain professional supervision for the educational process and model a variety of effective teaching strategies and methods in an atmosphere conducive to learning, experimentation, and risk taking.

Mentoring and Resources

The education department at Bowdoin believes that students learn to be teachers not just in the Bowdoin classroom, but also by engaging in multiple field placements in area public schools. The culminating field placement, the Bowdoin Teacher Scholars practicum, allows our students to spend fourteen weeks in a classroom full-time, first observing, then working alongside, and finally assuming responsibility for three of a cooperating teacher's classes.
