Student Awards

The Biochemistry Program at Bowdoin recognizes students who have displayed excellence in the study of biochemistry.

John L. Howland Book Award in Biochemistry

This award is given each year to a student who has achieved academic and general excellence in the biochemistry program at the end of the junior year.

The award is in honor of John L. Howland, a member of the Bowdoin faculty from 1963 to 2002 and the Josiah Little Professor of Natural Sciences and professor of biology and biochemistry, who founded the biochemistry program at Bowdoin in 1971.

Stephen Smith Prize in Biochemistry

This is awarded each year to an outstanding senior majoring in biochemistry, based on academic achievement, engagement and distinction in biochemistry research.
