Andrew W. Mellon Curriculum Development Summer Workshop

The program is open to Bowdoin faculty with continuing appointments interested in integrating the Museum’s many resources into their upcoming classes. It offers up to $1,000 in course development funds to support the design and implementation of their proposed goals.

The main goal of this program is to strengthen the BCMA's role in curriculum development at Bowdoin College, rather than faculty research. A scheduled workshop will be held in May 2014, during which time participants will be introduced to methods of developing students' skills of visual analysis, conceiving of Museum-based assignments and the processes and benefits of faculty-curated exhibitions, among other opportunities. Faculty will also schedule additional meeting times during the summer to work individually with Museum staff to select works of art from the permanent collection that can be used for class visits for an upcoming course or exhibition.

The BCMA especially welcomes applications that include:

• Collaborative and inter-disciplinary projects, including team-taught courses and First Year Seminars
• Faculty who are planning courses with themes that will coincide with upcoming Museum exhibitions of the academic year 2013-14
• Faculty who have not yet had in-depth experience working in the Museum

Prior knowledge of art history is not required and staff at the BCMA will help guide chosen faculty toward aspects of the Museum's collection that will best suit the needs of their teaching goals.

A general information session will also be held two weeks prior to the application due date.
