Rights and Reproductions

The Bowdoin College Museum of Art is dedicated to providing access to its collections to the fullest extent of the law, particularly for academic and other scholarly uses. To this end, the Museum makes available through its collections page two-dimensional reproductions of as many public domain works of art as possible for free download either as JPEG or TIF files. For works of art that are copyrighted by a third party, or if you require views of Public Domain works that are not immediately accessible on line, please consult our guidance below on “Reproducing Works of Art from the Collection of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.”

The BCMA now also offers three-dimensional (3-D) digital scans of a growing number of objects in its collection. Three-dimensional (3-D) renderings of works of art accessible through our collections page may be used with a CC0 license. Three-dimensional (3-D) scans available elsewhere on our website may not be downloaded.

Please note that access to and use of Bowdoin College Museum of Art's website, including the use of image and text files and data on this site are subject to the terms and conditions linked below. The Museum may at any time revise these Terms and Conditions by updating this posting. You are bound by any such revisions and should therefore periodically visit this page to review the then-current Terms and Conditions.

Should you have further questions, please contact the Assistant Registar.
