Statement on Fair Use of Reproductions of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art Collection
Many of the works in the BCMA collections are held in copyright by third parties, and therefore, we may not provide images to you unless your proposed use can be considered “fair.”
Before any image considered to be in copyright can be provided by the BCMA, we require that you provide information to support your assertion of fair use.
To help you to ascertain fair use, you may wish to consult some resources, such as:
- VRA Fair Use Statement
- CAA Code
- AAMD Guidelines for Use of Copyrighted Materials and Works of Art by Art Museums
Please be aware that even when fair use is indicated, from time to time access to images or works in the BCMA collection will be restricted due to contractual agreements with the image provider and/or the copyright holder(s).
