Charitable Gift Annuities

With a Charitable Gift Annuity you can make a gift to Bowdoin and receive income for life.

With this type of gift, you can arrange to receive income payments quarterly starting immediately or you can defer the start of payments to a date at least 1 year from the date of your gift.

You can also establish a schedule of dates providing flexibility as to the payment start date. After your lifetime, any remainder passes to Bowdoin.

How it Works

  1. Make a gift by transferring cash or securities to establish a 1– or 2–life charitable gift annuity.
  2. Receive an available income tax deduction while only paying partial capital gains tax.
  3. Bowdoin makes annual payments to you (and/or another annuitant) for the rest of your life.
  4. The remainder goes to the College after your lifetime(s).
