During the summer before his senior year, Kevin Trinh worked with the program Leadership Alliance, which he described as a sort of “common App for undergraduate research programs.”

The Leadership Alliance seeks to promote women and minority and first-generation college students in their pursuits of scholarship and careers in science. This was Trinh's second year working with the program, and he spoke highly of the experiences and skills he gained.

Aside from his internship with the Alliance, Trinh also engaged in a summer research experience at Brown University, where he studied physical volcanology and seismology. "It was cool work; we were imaging craters and relating image brightness to levels of water vapor," he said.

Trinh presented his research at the American Geophysical Union, which he said helped him gain useful experience networking with the scientific community.
