Travel Advisories

Travel Advisory information for Bowdoin students preparing to study abroad:

The U.S. Department of State issues foreign countries a travel advisor level advising Americans on how to proceed with their travel plans to a particular country or parts of that country. Travel Advisor levels range from 1-4 and some countries may have specific regions of their countries that have a different assessed level of risk/varying levels of risk.

Students are encouraged to learn about the Travel Advisory Level for their country of interest at the U.S. State Department website. Please note that Bowdoin restricts travel to all countries with a Travel Advisory Level 4.

All Bowdoin students, of whatever nationality, who intend to study in a country for which there exists a State Department Travel Advisory Level 3 prior to their departure is required by the College to complete a Special Waiver and Acknowledgment to ensure that they are aware of the travel advisory and its recommendations, and of their personal responsibility for the risks.

Bowdoin’s approval of participation in the program is not granted unless this form is signed by the student and a parent/legal guardian.
