Patrick Dempsey, whose character, Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy was a proud grad fond of wearing a Bowdoin T-shirt to bed and Bowdoin hoodie to the hospital softball game, has been named People’s 2023 “Sexiest Man Alive.”
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” Dempsey says in the cover story. “It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.” Read the People article.
Dempsey tells People that something positive includes the Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing and the Dempsey Challenge, an annual run, walk, and cycle fundraiser for the center.
Dempsey, who was awarded an honorary degree in 2013, last visited the College in 2019, when he was invited to speak about overcoming challenges with dyslexia for No Hate November’s keynote address.
