Students and parents from southern Texas will join Bowdoin College President Clayton Rose and Dean of Admissions and Student Aid Whitney Soule for an interactive session about how a liberal arts education applies in the workforce—and how Bowdoin meets the full financial need of every enrolled student without packaging loans.
The event, Bowdoin College, the Liberal Arts, and the Path to a Career in Anything, takes place Sunday, October 21, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Central Time), at the JW Marriott in Houston, Texas, and will be live-streamed at bowdoin.edu/live.

Four Bowdoin graduates who work in Texas will also participate in the event, sharing how their liberal arts education provided a unique pathway to career success—and how those paths led each of them from coastal Maine all the way to the Lone Star State:
Matt Ramos ’12, who majored in physics and earth and oceanographic science, now working as an earth scientist at Chevron Corporation
Désirée Jones-Rubin ’10, who majored in anthropology and minored in chemistry, in her second year as a pediatric resident physician at the University of Texas Medical Branch
Phoebe Bumsted ’17, and computer science and English major, working as a high performance computing cluster systems engineer at Intel Corp.
Sam Brody ’92, an environmental studies major and anthropology minor, now professor and George P. Mitchell ’40 Endowed Chair in Sustainable Coasts at Texas A&M University.
Students and parents in attendance will have the chance to ask President Rose, Dean Soule, and their alumni guests about everything from admissions and financial aid to majors and the pursuit of a career.
