Bowdoin students have been successful in receiving Fulbright fellowships to conduct research in Japan, as well as JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) positions to teach English there. Japanese language students have also consistently won top awards at the Japanese language contest organized by the consulate general of Japan in Boston. At the Bowdoin honors day celebration the Japanese language prize is awarded to a Japanese language student who demonstrates excellence in Japanese language and contributes to cross-cultural understanding through service or research.
