Modern board games have come a long way from the days of Monopoly and Risk, explained Professor of History Patrick Rael, a lifelong gamer who also devised an innovative new course.
In Historical Simulations, upper-level students examine American history, from the era of exploration through the Civil War, through the medium of tabletop games. Part of the course work includes recording “confessionals” in front of a green screen to outline strategies and progress in the games.
