Overview

Paul Franco specializes in the history of political philosophy and contemporary political theory. 

Current Work

Franco's most recent book, Rousseau, Nietzche, and the Image of the Human, published in 2021 by the University of Chicago Press, examines the relationship between Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Friedrich Nietzsche, and the differences between their "powerful alternative" visions of how we ought to live.

He is also the author of Nietzsche’s Enlightenment: The Free-Spirit Trilogy of the Middle Period; Michael Oakeshott: An Introduction; Hegel’s Philosophy of Freedom; and The Political Philosophy of Michael Oakeshott.

He is co-editor of Leo Strauss on Hegel, as well as Philosophy, Politics, and Conversation of Man, and A Companion to Michael Oakeshott. He has published articles and reviews in The American Political Science Review, Political Theory, The Journal of Politics, The Review of Politics, Political Studies, Ethics, and The Political Science Reviewer.
