Joe Gaetano ’27: Summer Associate with Spring Mountain Capital

This summer I worked as a Summer Associate on the West Harlem Innovation Network team at Spring Mountain Capital. In my role, I conducted research on social impact investing, participated in investment meetings, and met with portfolio company founders and CEO's.

• In 2022, SMC launched WHIN to invest in businesses, rather than real estate, that deliver social impact in opportunity zones. The company has a focus on Life Sciences, Food Ecosystems, Education, and Technology.
• Throughout the summer I worked on various projects with the firm. While part of the WHIN team, I also supported initiatives from the growth equity group. I focused on data cleaning tasks, sharpened my PowerPoint and Excel skills, and worked on a major research project to conclude my internship. My research proved valuable as the team advances towards publishing their paper, providing key insights, and foundational analysis to support their work.
• Overall, this internship solidified my interest in a career in finance, particularly in asset management. It reinforced the importance of fiduciary responsibility and deepened my commitment to serving clients with integrity and purpose.
