Working for Senator Cynthia Creem

Assisting in constituent services, sorting new bills, and researching legislative policy and politics

This summer, I worked as an intern for my district’s state senator, Majority Leader Cynthia Creem. Senator Creem has been working in the MA State House for the last 20 years and tackles important issues such as gun violence, climate change, and prison reform.

As an intern in her office, I assisted in constituent services by answering the phone and speaking with constituents who came into the office daily. I also helped read through new bills and summarize them for the senator and her staff. Finally, I worked on an independent project throughout the summer researching legislative policy and politics around alternative protein, one of the office’s budding areas of interest. At the end of the summer, I got to present to the senator and her staff about my research and offer suggestions of policy to enact.

This internship provided incredible exposure to state government and the legislative process, something I had interest in but no prior experience. In addition, it helped me practice being a part of a professional work environment and handling daily tasks while also being responsible for my own self-guided project. A highlight for me was getting to see the senate sessions in person and observing debate over some of the biggest bills of the summer.

Internship funded by the Ajmera Intership Fund.
