Lyne Lucien who goes by “LaLucien” is an award-winning Haitian artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Bowdoin College. Before working as a full time artist, Lyne has held positions as a photo editor, art director, and creative producer for various publications and brands. Her work is rooted in community. She draws details from her vibrant upbringing in Haiti to create the bold spaces and themes in her work. Her illustrations were used by various companies such as Google, Microsoft, Hulu and more.

It was a very positive experience to work for a Black woman who has seen tremendous success in the art industry. As her assistant I met with her (remotely) everyday to discuss her projects. I wrote emails and sat in on meetings with clients such as Doctors Without Borders and New York Fashion Week organizers. I learned how to manage a freelance brand as a sole proprietor, negotiate 1099 contracts, and how to pitch art services to large companies. All of which definitely provided clarity on which path I want to take as a writer.

Internship funded by the Bowdoin College Museum of Art Internship Fund.
