Translation in Business

Translating business correspondence from Spanish to English
Image of translation draft of an email.

My main role this summer was translating: understanding what the tone and connotations messages in Spanish carried and keeping these messages’ meanings in their English equivalents. Below are real drafts of the translation of an email I found particularly challenging that well illustrates the process:

“Necesito que se formalice mi participación para principios de agosto, para yo poder solicitar y analizar la información que nos dejara decidir la fecha de apertura.”

1. If I were to be favored with your desire to have me participate in this project, I believe it important that my participation be formalized by the beginning of August. My role would be to evaluate the feasibility of opening dates.

2. Given the need to acquire and analyze the relevant information to decide a good opening date, I need an employment contract by August.

3. To acquire and analyze the information in time to be able to make a decision regarding opening dates, it is important that my participation be formalized by the beginning of August.
