Working at a Full Service Photochemical Film Lab

Preserving memories through photography
Over the summer I took over all E-6 and B&W development, learning to operate and manage a commercial Jobo AutoLab rotorary processor. In addition, I was responsible for order intake. I checked in newly received film, communicating with customers in the process. Once fulfilled, I also boxed and shipped complete orders back to customers.
Toward the end of my summer, we acquired an RA4 color paper darkroom processor. I assisted in re-arranging, organizing, and cleaning the space in preparation for installation. Once installed, I conducted chemical tests, making test prints to ensure quality, of which I have a few. Spending time refining the contrast and tonal range to arrive at a print I’m happy with is one of my favorite steps in making a photograph, so now having color as an additional dimension was super exciting.
