Northeast Photographic is a full-service photochemical film lab located in Bath. They provide film processing and scanning at the highest standards of quality and among the widest range of processes and formats available: from 35mm to 11x14, in C-41 negative, E-6 slide, and black and white. All chemical processing and digital scanning is done entirely in-house.

Over the summer I took over all E-6 and B&W development, learning to operate and manage a commercial Jobo AutoLab rotorary processor. In addition, I was responsible for order intake. I checked in newly received film, communicating with customers in the process. Once fulfilled, I also boxed and shipped complete orders back to customers.

Toward the end of my summer, we acquired an RA4 color paper darkroom processor. I assisted in re-arranging, organizing, and cleaning the space in preparation for installation. Once installed, I conducted chemical tests, making test prints to ensure quality, of which I have a few. Spending time refining the contrast and tonal range to arrive at a print I’m happy with is one of my favorite steps in making a photograph, so now having color as an additional dimension was super exciting.
