This summer I worked for Libby O’Brien Kingsley & Champion, LLC., a law firm in Kennebunk, Maine. The firm handles a wide variety of practices, including civil litigation, criminal defense, personal injury law, labor and employment law, sports law, family law, and it also deals with trusts and estates. I worked alongside their team of eight litigators for ten weeks, assisting them in court, preparing documents, and researching case files. For instance, I spent a significant amount of time researching cases related to criminal negligence in order to assist one of the attorneys in a driving to endanger case.

My experience working alongside the attorneys at Libby O’Brien Kingsley & Champion has taught me invaluable skills related to research and constructing arguments, including how to conduct thorough research and construct sound arguments. I was inspired by many of the litigators who were driven by a genuine desire to help others, especially those who were going through extraordinarily difficult times. The idea of passionately devoting my career to helping people is one that resonates with me, and I could see myself relying on that passion and devotion to guide me early in my career. My favorite part of the internship was going into court to observe trial proceedings, although I also enjoyed sitting in on meetings with clients where I had the opportunity to meet new and interesting people.

Internship funded by the Scott and Anne Perper Internship Fund.
