I spent the summer working for FlightLevel Technologies, an aviation technology startup founded by recent Bowdoin alum Andrew Merrell. FlightLevel Technologies uses AI and robotics to design camera systems that autonomously track runway activity at airports along with providing other services such as analytics and landing fee collection.

I got the opportunity to help out on lots of different projects including designing our sales brochure (see image), working with the CTO on testing out data visualization software and designing analytics dashboards for airports and going on the roofs of airports to install cameras. This was a great experience for me because I got lots of insight into how to run a business along with learning about the startup world and how to create and market something that has never existed before.

My favorite part was working with Andrew and our CTO Deren as they both taught me a lot about how to run a business but also trusted me with meaningful work that helped us get from testing our product in the beginning of the summer to selling it nationwide. They also encouraged me to share my own ideas and took my advice which again made me feel like I was making a meaningful contribution. The biggest thing I learned this summer was how to figure out new challenges and adapt to unique situations. Whether it was marketing, data analytics or whatever else needed doing I was pushed to learn new skills on the fly.
