Intern
By Mei Bock '24This summer, I worked as an intern at Seeds of the League, the community programs department of at the Art Students League, an art school in NYC. Seeds extends the League’s art education mission to underserved communities through scholarships, career development, and partnerships with non-profit organizations, public schools, and city agencies.
During my time at Seeds, I worked alongside the Director of Community Programs, Denise L. Greene, to learn about and help organize Seeds’ wide variety of programming. Some of my major projects: I taught my own class of 25 students, ages 6-12, at a summer camp run by NYC Parks, where Seeds places teaching artists. I helped expand the Seeds advisory board by researching and writing personalized letters to 60+ contemporary artists. I researched and wrote a public art proposal, which is currently being reviewed by a partner’s education department. I also did curriculum development, admin work, coordinated a student program, and prepared materials for and ran a booth at Summer Streets
This internship helped me realize that my love for writing and art can be applied in so many different ways that I had never anticipated. My favorite parts were the conversations I had with my boss. There I was able to realize the power of always expanding your conceptions of what can be possible (especially in non-profit work), and then working to make those dreams a reality.
