Furniture Maker​

Kidwell Fabrications is a Portland based furniture company founded and operated by Kyle Kidwell. Kyles commitment to minimalist designs and precision make his hand crafted furniture stand out. I had the privilege to work with Kyle on many different projects including his Baxter end tables, Macqueen trestle table, Rosemont side chairs, and Rowe desk. Working at Kidwell Fabrications was my introduction to professional furniture making and therefore introduced me to many new skills and concepts including the process for milling rough lumber, glueing up panels and table tops, cutting joinery, as well as introductions to more complex glue-ups and a significant amount of sanding. I learned that this profession, which in Kyles case includes running your own business, takes tremendous stamina as you must manage not only your craft and product but also your clients, finances, and advertising. The knowledge I gained over the course of the summer has not led me to a conclusion on the career path I would like to take but is has absolutely allowed me to make a much more informed decision when that time comes. The highlights of this work for me was always seeing the projects once they were completed and knowing that the work Kyle and I put into created them had paid off and that a family or company was going to enjoy using them each and every day.
