Haystack Diagnostics Research and Development Intern
By Andy Stoneman ‘23At Haystack Dx, I reported to, and worked alongside, the company’s CEO in supporting the design, development, and manufacturing of the company’s proprietary diagnostic device for assessing neuromuscular disorders—an iEMG Needle Device.
I managed multiple projects, including researching series A investors, developing UI/UX specifications, searching and connecting with cloud company partners, building robust tables for pharmaceutical connections, among others.
I learned a lot about myself, as I worked on managing my time to meet deadlines, found out I love working on a collaborative team in the work environment, discovered I have a strong interest in diving deeper into the technology field, and also really enjoy working in the early stages of a company, as you’re much more involved in all aspects of the product. This has helped inform me about future career aspirations, and what exactly I’m looking for in a job, as I added new researching, communication, and design skills to my repertoire. I also learned a lot about different technological components, such as cloud computing, UI/UX software, and the powers of our needle device. Lastly, I learned what it’s like to work with a global team, as I had to understand the differing time zones, a dynamic I had never dealt with!
However, one of my biggest takeaways is how important it is to work with great people, as I think my favorite part was working with the company’s CEO, Mai Le. She was a great role model and a wonderful person to learn from!
