Working as an archivist on the Marcia Sigler Collection

TAG Historical Research & Consulting is a small historical consulting firm based in Boise, Idaho. At TAG, I worked remotely as an archivist on the Marcia Sigler Collection. Marcia Sigler was the daughter of Robert Harold Sigler, a renowned early 20thcentury portrait photographer based in Boise. The collection (purchased from her estate following her death) spans from 1882 to 2008 and is composed of letters & telegrams, family histories, photographs, legal & professional documents, newspaper clippings, etc. As an archivist, it was my job to conduct outside research on the Sigler family and organize this collection for donation to the Idaho State Historical Society.

I loved the opportunity to take a huge collection of disorganized primary source materials and interpret them to tell the in-depth story of someone’s life. In addition to learning about the Sigler family, I was also able to gain insight on the everyday life and culture of Idahoans at that time, which was really cool from my perspective as a 21stcentury Idahoan! This internship was a wonderful opportunity to develop my archival/historical research skills and to learn about the field of historical consulting as a whole.
