In her latest body of work, THE FEAR THAT SUCH THINGS ARE TRUE, Anna Tsouhlarakis dives into realms of Navajo cultural taboos, feminine strength, and communal humor. Exploring the intersections of materiality and form along with the edges of what is acceptable, absurd, and necessary, Tsouhlarakis proposes new narratives of Indigenous feminine empowerment that pull from ancestral knowledge and lived experiences to charge toward the future with force. With titles such as “SHE DARES YOU TO STEAL HER HAIR” and “COYOTES RUN FROM HER,” the three- and two-dimensional works negotiate the space between traditional ways of being and the contemporary world.

This exhibition is curated by Cassandra Mesick Braun with generous support from the Elizabeth B.G. Hamlin Fund.
