Workday Mock Semester

By Workday Project Team

As Bowdoin gets closer to bringing Workday Student to campus, the work of the Organizational Change & Training group begins to come into focus. This is the group charged with helping the Bowdoin community understand the changes that are on their way and with conducting trainings for campus. As our Workday configuration begins to solidify and the work of the teams becomes more about testing than building, the Organizational Change & Training (or OC&T) group steps in to begin writing Job Aids, or process help documents, and plan for the trainings they'll conduct for groups around campus. As a way of testing their help documents and understanding campus training needs, the OC&T group hosts Mock Semester.

For three days, Mock Semester brought together students and faculty to take on typical activities they'll complete throughout the course of a semester in Workday. Using the first drafts of Bowdoin's job aids, students and faculty completed advising tasks, searched and registered for course sections, changed majors, reviewed course rosters, and graded course sections.

Following each session, participants were asked to leave feedback on the Job Aids, or help documents, as well as on Workday itself. The OC&T group collected 172 pages of feedback from those three days, and has taken those comments into account for developing further trainings, refining job aids, and other materials to help Bowdoin prepare for the impending change to Workday.

Thank you to our Mock Semester participants - you are amazing!
