Introduction to Alchemy

By Workday Project Team

Implementing a system as robust and complex as Workday isn't something organizations can do on their own, so Workday requires that implementers partner with organizations certified in Workday methodology to assist in the process from start to finish. In partnering with Alchemy for our implementation, Bowdoin has chosen to work with a company whose exclusive focus is higher education implementations with Workday, and who is #1 in the Workday ecosystem for go-lives and active projects.

So who is Alchemy, and what will they do?

Alchemy's mission is to be the premiere higher education solutions partner for Workday. They hire consultants from around the country who have a deep functional backgrounds in higher education, finance, human resources, and student records, as well as a robust technical staff. They staff projects with project managers, consultants with professional experience in their areas and in Workday, technically skilled staffers to assist with reporting and integration work, and people to help us navigate changes and training.

These consultants work closely with Bowdoin staff throughout the implementation to understand our current processes, structures, and needs, and then apply that knowledge when building and configuring our institution's Workday environment. In addition, they partner with us to develop business processes that drive our self service activities, such as requesting time off or hiring student employees, build integrations that connect Workday to other systems used on and off campus, and develop test strategies. As time goes on and staff at Bowdoin are getting closer to using the system on their own, Alchemy will ensure that knowledge has been transferred from Alchemy to Bowdoin, which will in turn allow staff at Bowdoin to train others on how to use the system to accomplish their work. After the system is in use, we'll have some time to be able to continue to receive support from Alchemy on changes and adjustments to the system.
