Workday Governance

Understanding Workday governance at Bowdoin.

Workday Governance

What are the groups Bowdoin has in place to define policies for Workday, make and enforce decisions regarding its use, and establish the strategic direction for Workday?

Workday governance flow chart, showing Executives at the top, followed by the Workday Advisory Group with a line to Funky Techs. Directly down from Workday Advisory Group is the Workday User Group, and Workday Updates at the bottom of the list.

  • Executives - The Senior Vice Presidents overseeing IT, Finance and Administration, and Academic Affairs hold ultimate responsibility for the direction and use of Workday.
  • Workday Advisory Group - Senior leaders in offices that use Workday for the administration of their work. They are responsible for setting policies surrounding the use of Workday. This group also includes the Funky Techs. This group meets monthly, year round.
  • Funky Techs - Each of the main modules of Workday (HR, Finance, and Student) has at least one administrator working in those areas that understands both the day-to-day work of their office (functional knowledge) and enhanced understanding of how Workday operates with the ability to make more adjustments to the system than the average user (technical knowledge). We've decided to refer to this group with functional/technical knowledge the Funky Techs. This group meets multiple times per week, year round.
  • Workday User Group - As the name implies, this group is made up of people whose primary jobs require them to be extremely frequent users of Workday. Representatives from various areas across the college have been chosen to join the User Group, which is a dedicated space to discuss Workday and the data that is in it, flows into it, and flows out of it. This is an intentional and collaborative group that exists to provide a community of highly-informed and knowledgeable professionals.
  • Workday Update Group - The entire campus makes up the Update Group! This is a level of our Workday governance model to remind all of us that all our knowledge and plans must be frequently shared with the wider campus community in order to make our use of Workday as successful as it can be.
