The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Bowdoin engages students and faculty in a variety of collaborative pedagogical and research experiences and approaches to further expand knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Francophone, Italian, and Hispanic cultures.

Gustavo Faverón Patriau Novel "Vivir Abajo" Wins Top Award in Germany
The Bowdoin scholar’s novel earns top honors at the Leipzig Book Fair for the German language edition of his 2019 novel Vivir Abajo. The jury describes the book and its German translation as “a deliberately and cleverly constructed game of deception.”
Renovated Peucinian Room Connects the New and the Old
The newly renovated Sills Hall contains a space with strong links to Bowdoin’s past: The wood-paneled Peucinian Room, home to the eponymous debating society formed over two centuries ago, maintains an “intentionally Luddite” atmosphere as a place of learning with limited technology.
